Questions & answers
The questions people actually ask.
No sales spin, no dodging the hard ones. Here are straight answers to the things people really want to know before they think about solar and battery — including the times the honest answer is "it might not be worth it".
Is it worth it?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no — and the whole point of the free analysis is to tell you which. We read your own half-hourly data and give you a real payback figure for your home, not a generic estimate.
If the numbers don't stack up for you, we'll say so plainly. An honest "it isn't worth it" is a perfectly good outcome, and it's yours to keep whatever you decide.
Does it work when it's cloudy?
Yes. Panels still generate on a grey day — just less than in bright sun. British weather is normal, not a problem to hide.
That's exactly why we size a system from a full year of your data, not from one sunny afternoon. The cloudy days are already built into the numbers you get.
How long till it pays for itself?
That depends on your home, so we won't throw a made-up number at you. What we will give you is a real payback period worked out from your own half-hourly data — with the assumptions shown, so you can see exactly how we got there.
No best-case figure picked to look good. Just the working, laid out plainly.
Do I use the energy, or does it go back to the grid?
Both — and how much of each is one of the most important numbers in the whole sum. When your panels make more than the house is using, the extra goes back to the grid (usually for a much lower price than you'd pay to buy it). When you use it yourself, you avoid buying that unit at all.
The share you use at home is called your self-consumption, and it's exactly what the half-hourly analysis works out. It's also the number a battery is there to improve — storing your daytime surplus so you use it in the evening instead of selling it back cheaply.
Can I afford it?
The honest answer is that it's your call, made without any pressure from us. What we can promise is that the price is fixed and itemised, so there are no surprises, and payment is split into a deposit and stages tied to the work rather than everything up front.
There's no same-day signature and no chasing. Take a few days or a few weeks to sit with the numbers — the fixed price holds while you decide.
What if you go out of business?
A fair question, and we'll answer it straight. We're putting an insurance-backed guarantee in place through the IWA, together with deposit protection. It's designed to sit independently of the company — so your deposit and your workmanship cover don't rely on Eight Energy still being here to honour them.
To be completely honest: this is being finalised and is not active yet. We won't describe it as live cover until it genuinely is. The moment it's in place, we'll say so on the Pricing & guarantees page and set out exactly what it covers.
I've had a cheaper quote.
There's nearly always a cheaper option — the real question is what's been left out to get there. Thinner kit, a system sized too small, no proper analysis, or corners cut on the install all bring the headline price down.
Our quote is itemised in full, so you can see exactly what you're paying for and compare like with like. If a cheaper quote genuinely does the same job, that's useful to know — and we'd rather you had that clarity than felt pushed.
I want to think about it.
Genuinely fine. A decision like this should be made in your own time, not on a doorstep. There's no same-day signature and no follow-up chasing.
Your fixed price stays exactly the same while you decide, however long that takes. If you've got more questions in the meantime, ask — that's what we're here for.
